ABSTRACT

O objetivo deste trabalho foi relacionar os achados anatomopatológicos das lesões gástricas subclínicas de ocorrência natural em leitões com a presença, ou não, de Helicobacter spp. por meio da imuno-histoquímica. Foram utilizados 48 leitões de linhagem genética comercial. Os animais foram adquiridos em uma granja comercial, com peso médio de 34 Kg e idade média de 79 dias; após o abate, seus estômagos foram coletados e avaliados. Avaliações histopatológicas e imuno-histoquímicas foram realizadas em amostras das regiões anatômicas aglandular e glandular. Macroscopicamente, 34 (70,83%) leitões apresentaram lesões na região aglandular, enquanto que em 14 animais (29,17%) não foram encontradas alterações nesta região. Dos estômagos com lesão, 14 foram classificados como grau 1, seis como grau 2 e 14 como grau 3. Microscopicamente, 44 amostras (91,66%) apresentaram paraqueratose. Deste total, 22 apresentaram a forma discreta, 20 a moderada e dois a acentuada. Na avaliação macroscópica da porção glandular, 41 (85,4%) animais apresentaram alteração em pelo menos uma das três regiões, e em somente sete (14,6%) não foram encontradas lesões em nenhuma delas. Em 14 deles, houve aumento da atividade mucípara, em dois, houve erosão e, em cinco, hiperemia.  As lesões na região glandular do estômago foram mais extensas no antro e no cárdia, seguidas do fundo. The aim of this study was to relate the anatomopathological findings of naturally occurring subclinical gastric lesions in piglets, with or without Helicobacter spp. through immunohistochemistry. Forty-eight piglets of commercial genetic lineage were used. The animals were acquired in a commercial farm, with an average weight of 34 kg and an average age of 79 days, and after slaughter, their stomachs were collected and evaluated. Samples from the glandular and aglandular anatomical regions were evaluated. Macroscopically, 34 (70.83%) samples had lesions on aglandular region, while 14 (29.17%) nothing had. Of the injured stomachs, 14 were classified as grade 1, six as grade 2 and 14 as grade 3. Microscopically, 44 samples (91.66%) showed parakeratosis. Of these, 22 showed a discreet manner, 20 moderate and two severe. In the glandular region, in 41 (85.4%) samples there was a change in at least one of the three regions, and only seven animals (14.6%) showed no change in any of the three. Fourteen samples showed increased muciparous activity, two showed erosion and five hyperemia. The lesions were higher in antral regions and cardic, followed the fundus. In relation to immunohistochemistry, 21(43.8%) samples were negative in all areas, 24 (50%) were positive in at least one, and none were positive in all. The anatomopathological findings showed a statistical relationship with the bacteria, and its immunostaining, not associated with gastric lesions in certain regions, demonstrates its saprophytic and opportunistic character.

ABSTRACT

Spray-dried animal plasma (SDAP), a natural byproduct of the meatpacking industry, has been shown to have beneficial effects on growth and performance of weaned pigs. Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) is an important virus that is disseminated in the pork industry. Regardless of the studies evaluating the possible transmission of PCV2 through SDAP, there is no information about the effects of its inclusion in the PCV2 loads in natural infections. The present investigation evaluated the influence of dietary inclusion levels of SDAP in weanling pigs on PCV2 viremia and humoral immune response. Fifty-six weaned piglets were fed in a 2-period feeding program. Dietary treatments included 0%, 2%, 4% or 6% and 0%, 1%, 2% or 3% of SDAP during period 1 (14 to 28 days old) and 2 (29 to 42-days old), respectively. In period 3 (42 to 56 days old), all piglets received a SDAP-free diet. Serum samples were collected weekly and tested for PCV2 antibodies and DNA load. The results show that the concentration of 6% and 3% of SDAP on feed offered for pigs during period 1 and 2, respectively, may have decreased the PCV2 loads.(AU)


O plasma sanguíneo em pó (PSP), produto natural de indústria frigorífica, tem mostrado efeitos benéficos sobre o crescimento e desempenho de leitões desmamados precocemente. Atualmente, embora o circovírus suíno 2 (PCV2) tenha grande importância para a suinocultura, não há informações sobre o impacto do uso de PSP e a resposta imune ao PCV2 em infecções naturais. Este trabalho avaliou diferentes níveis de inclusão de PSP em dietas de leitões e as cargas virais de PCV2 correspondentes. Quatro níveis de inclusão de PSP foram testados em dois períodos consecutivos: 0, 2, 4 ou 6% durante o período 1 (14 aos 28 dias de idade) e 1, 2 ou 3% de PSP durante o período 2 (29 a 42 dias de idade). No período 3 (42 aos 56 dias de idade), todos os leitões foram alimentados com dieta isenta de PSP. Amostras de soro foram coletadas semanalmente e testadas para anticorpos anti-PCV2 e carga de DNA de PCV2. As concentrações de 6% e 3% de PSP fornecidas nas rações durante o período 1 e 2, respectivamente, influenciaram na carga viral de PCV2 de suínos naturalmente infectados.(AU)

Foram avaliados os efeitos do plasma sanguíneo desidratado (PSD) sobre desempenho, perfil imunológico, histológico, microbiológico e peso de órgãos de leitões leves, desmamados aos 21 dias de idade. Foram utilizados 24 leitões, com idade média inicial de 21 dias, em delineamento experimental completamente ao acaso. Os tratamentos foram: T1 - animais pesados ao desmame, sem suplementação com PSD; T2 - animais leves ao desmame, suplementados com 10g/animal/dia de PSD; T3 - animais leves ao desmame, suplementados com 20g/animal/dia de PSD; T4 - animais leves ao desmame, sem suplementação com PSD. A adição de 20g de PSD na dieta melhorou o ganho diário de peso, aumentou o peso (g/kg) do baço e o título de IgA no soro entre 21 e 31 dias de idade. A inclusão de 10g de PSD aumentou o comprimento e a largura do linfonodo ileocólico. A inclusão de PSD traz benefícios aos leitões nos primeiros 10 dias pós-desmame, atuando principalmente nos órgãos linfoides e na mucosa intestinal.


The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of spray-dried plasma (SDP) on the growth performance, immunological, histological and microbiological profile and weight of organs of light weight weaned pigs. The trial was done using 24 pigs with an initial mean age of 21 days in a completely randomized experimental design. The treatments were: T1 - heavy weight weaned pigs, without SDP supplementation; T2 - light weight weaned pigs, supplemented with 10g/animal/day of SDP; T3 - light weight weaned pigs, supplemented with 20g/animal/day of SDP; T4 - light weight weaned pigs, without SDP supplementation. The inclusion of 20g of SDP in the diet improved the weight gain, spleen weight (g/kg) and serum IgA title between 21 and 31 days of age. The inclusion of 10g of SDP in the diet improved the length and width of the ileocolic lymph node. In the first 10 days after weaning, SDP improved the development of lymphoid organs and the protection of the intestinal mucosa.

O estudo buscou avaliar as respostas fisiológicas e de desempenho à adição de diferentes níveis de β-glucanos na dieta de leitões recém-desmamados. Foram utilizados 30 machos de linhagem comercial, com 34 dias de idade e peso de 10,9±0,63kg, alojados em gaiolas individuais, durante 14 dias. Os tratamentos variaram somente nos níveis de β-glucanos que foram de 35, 70, 140 e 280g/T. No final desse período, em metade dos animais foram injetados 2,7mg de lipopolissacarídeo (LPS) em 1mL de solução (PBS)/leitão, e nos demais 1mL/leitão de PBS. Foram avaliadas temperatura retal (TR), frequência respiratória (FR), perfil bioquímico sanguíneo e sinais clínicos aos 30, 90, 120 e 390 minutos seguintes à injeção. As respostas de desempenho não foram afetadas pelos níveis de β-glucanos. Foi observado o aumento de TR, tanto em função do LPS como em função da hora em que a temperatura foi medida. No entanto, os animais LPS-injetados, que receberam 280g/T de β-glucanos, tiveram a mesma TR daqueles LPS-não injetados. Os sinais clínicos foram compatíveis com um quadro de inflamação aguda e foram observados, nos animais LPS-injetados, vômito, prostração e diarreia, sendo que a inclusão de β-glucanos não conseguiu reverter esses sintomas. O uso de β-glucanos por 14 dias na dieta de leitões recém-desmamados mostrou um efeito anti-inflamatório em situação de desafio agudo. Para reverter o desafio imunológico utilizado, o nível de 280g/T de β-glucanos mostrou-se o mais recomendado.


This study was done to evaluate immunological responses and performance of weaning piglets receiving diets with different levels of β-glucans. Thirty males from a commercial line with 34 days of age and 10.9±0,6kg initial weight were housed in individual metabolic cages during 14 days. The treatments only differed in β-glucans levels: 35; 70; 140 and 280g/T. On the 14th day, half of the pigs were inoculated with 2.7mg LPS (lipopolysaccharide)/mL of solution (PBS)/pig and the other half received 1mL PBS/pig. Rectal temperature (RT), respiratory frequency (RF), biochemical profile and animal behavior (120 and 390 minutes after LPS inoculation) were evaluated. As the experiment was conducted, performance was not affected by β-glucans. An RT increase was observed due to LPS and time of temperature measurement. LPS-injected animals receiving 280g/T of β-glucans had the same RT as the LPS- non injected group. Clinical signs were near the expectation for acute inflammation. LPS-injected presented prostration, diarrhea and vomit and the β-glucans did not reverse this situation. The use of β-glucans in weaning pigs for fourteen days showed an anti-inflammatory action. To revert the immunologic challenge, the level of 280g/T of β-glucans was the most recommended.

ABSTRACT

A serologic survey was conducted among 130 swine slaughtered in the public slaughterhouse of the city of Patos, Paraíba State, Northeastern Brazil, to determine the prevalence of anti-Toxoplasma gondii and anti-Neospora caninum antibodies, and to verify possible associations between sex of the animals and antibody prevalence. The sera were analyzed by indirect antibody tests, considering 1:64 (T. gondii) and 1:50 (N. caninum) dilutions as cut-off points. The prevalence of anti-T. gondii antibodies was 36.2 percent (47/130) (95 percent CI = 27.9 - 45.0 percent) with reciprocal titers ranging from 64 to 2,048, and of anti-N. caninum antibodies was 3.1 percent (4/130) (95 percent CI = 0.8 - 7.7 percent) with reciprocal titers ranging from 50 to 6,400. Three of the four N. caninum-positive samples were also positive for T. gondii antibodies. All Neospora and Toxoplasma IFAT-positive animals were also positive for confirmatory immunoblotting techniques using total and purified N. caninum and T. gondii tachyzoite antigens, i.e., p38 (NcSRS2) and p30 (TgSAG1). There was no association between sex of animals and prevalence of anti-T. gondii and anti-N. caninum antibodies. This is the first indication of N. caninum natural infection in pigs from Brazil.


Foi conduzido um estudo sorológico em 130 suínos abatidos no matadouro público do município de Patos, Estado da Paraíba, Nordeste do Brasil, com o objetivo de determinar a prevalência de anticorpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii e anti-Neospora caninum, e verificar possíveis associações entre o sexo dos animais e a prevalência de anticorpos. Os soros foram analisados pelo testes de imunofluorescência indireta, considerando as diluições 1:64 (T. gondii) e 1:50 (N. caninum) como pontos de corte. A prevalência de anticorpos anti-T. gondii foi de 36,2 por cento (47/130) (IC 95 por cento = 27,9 - 45,0 por cento) com títulos variando de 64 a 2.048, e anti-N. caninum de 3,1 por cento (4/130) (IC 95 por cento = 0,8 - 7,7 por cento) com títulos variando de 50 a 6.400. Três das quatro amostras positivas para anticorpos anti-N. caninum também foram positivas para anticorpos anti-T. gondii. Todos os animais positivos na RIFI para Neospora e Toxoplasma também foram positivos nas técnicas confirmatórias de immunoblotting usando antígenos totais e purificados de taquizoítos de N. caninum e T. gondii, ou seja, p38 (NcSRS2) e p30 (TgSAG1). Não houve associação entre o sexo dos animais e a prevalência de anticorpos anti-T. gondii e anti-N. caninum. Essa é a primeira indicação de infecção natural por N. caninum em suínos do Brasil.

ABSTRACT

Six 1-month-old piglets were intravenously injected with deoxynivalenol (DON) at the concentration of 1 mg/kg body weight, with three pigs each necropsied at 6 and 24 h post-injection (PI) for investigation of hepatotoxicity and immunotoxicity with special attention to apoptotic changes and cytokine mRNA expression. Histopathological examination of the DON-injected pigs revealed systemic apoptosis of lymphocytes in lymphoid tissues and hepatocytes. Apoptosis of lymphocytes and hepatocytes was confirmed by the TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end-labeling (TUNEL) method and immunohistochemical staining against single-stranded DNA and cleaved caspase-3. The number of TUNEL-positive cells in the thymus and Peyer's patches of the ileum was increased at 24 h PI compared to 6 h PI, but the peak was at 6 h PI in the liver. The mRNA expression of interleukin (IL)-1beta, IL-6, IL-18, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha in the spleen, thymus and mesenteric lymph nodes were determined by semi-quantitative RT-PCR, and elevated expression of IL-1beta mRNA at 6 h PI and a decrease of IL-18 mRNA at 24 h PI were observed in the spleen. IL-1beta and IL-6 mRNA expressions increased significantly at 6 h PI in the thymus, but TNF-alpha decreased at 6 h PI in the mesenteric lymph nodes. These results show the apoptosis of hepatocytes suggesting the hepatotoxic potential of DON, in addition to an immunotoxic effect on the modulation of proinflammatory cytokine genes in lymphoid organs with extensive apoptosis of lymphocytes induced by acute exposure to DON in pigs.

ABSTRACT

The present investigation was conducted to study the foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV)-specific humoral immune response (HIR) in pigs, following vaccination with oil adjuvanted foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccine, upto 90 days post vaccination (dpv). For this, 40 Large White Yorkshire (LWY) pigs (20; one-year old female (gilts) and 20; three-month old piglets) were vaccinated @ 2 ml/animal, subcutaneously. Sera samples were collected at fortnight interval from all the animals. The log10 SN50 antibody titres against all the serotypes (Type O, A and Asia-1) were detected in both gilts and piglets from day 7 to 90 dpv indicating the persistence of HIR up to the last day of sampling. The maximum antibody titres were observed on 28 dpv, thereafter, titres started declining, but were present till 90 dpv against all the three FMDV serotypes. HIR was more pronounced in piglets in comparison to gilts, as group mean SN antibody titres against all the three FMDV serotypes were found to be more maintained and significantly higher in piglets.

ABSTRACT

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is introduced as a marker of disease. At present, a variety of method may be used to quantify expression of this protein. Antigen capture-ELISA is a sensitive and accurate quantification method previously used with ovine, rat, and human IL-6 proteins. However, it has never been reported to quantify porcine IL-6 protein using capture ELISA. In this study, we generated and characterized a set of IgY and mono-specific polyclonal antibodies to recombinant porcine IL-6 (rpIL-6), and combining these with a sensitive and specific capture-ELISA for a diagnostic purpose. cDNA encoding the mature protein coding region of porcine IL-6 was cloned and expressed with pQE-30UA expression vector. rpIL-6 was then expressed and purified by using Ni-NTA resin. Protein mass of 24 kDa was found with SDS-PAGE and the identity of the protein was confirmed by Western-blot. Production of polyclonal antibodies against rpIL-6 was performed using the purified rpIL-6 in mice and hens. An antigen capture-ELISA was developed with the antibodies after their extraction. To compare the IL-6 level in the different sanitary state of farms, pig sera were randomly collected and concentration of IL-6 in the sera was measured with the antigen capture-ELISA. The capture-ELISA with the optimal concentration of antibodies, in this study, was able to detect about 10 ng/ml of rpIL-6. IL-6 levels determined with the capture-ELISA in pig sera showed positive correlation with the sanitary states of the farms. These results suggested that the developed antigen capture-ELISA could be a good tool for the screening of microbial infection in pig farms.

ABSTRACT

The role of Mac-1 as a receptor for Bordetella bronchiseptica infection of alveolar macrophages (AMphi) was examined using 6 strains (2 ATCC and 4 pathogenic field isolates) to assess B. bronchiseptica binding, uptake and replication in primary porcine AMphi. All B. bronchiseptica strains were rapidly killed by porcine serum in a dose- and time-dependent manner. However, heat-inactivated porcine serum (HIS) did not demonstrate any bacterial-killing activity, suggesting that complement may have a direct killing activity. All field isolates were more resistant to direct complement-mediated B. bronchiseptica killing. The uptake of B. bronchiseptica into AMphi was inhibited approximately 50% by antiMac-1 monoclonal antibodies in the medium. However, B. bronchiseptica phagocytosed in the presence of serum or HIS was not altered by anti-Mac-1 antibodies although more bacteria were internalized by addition of serum or HIS. These data suggest that Mac-1 is a target for direct uptake of B. bronchiseptica via opsoninindependent binding. The phagocytosed B. bronchiseptica, either via direct or serum-mediated binding, were efficiently killed by AMphi within 10 hr postinfection. This demonstrates that Mac-1-mediated B. bronchiseptica uptake is a bacterial killing pathway not leading to productive infections in AMphi.

Suspected cases of Japanese Encephalitis (J.E.) were recorded in the hospitals of Arunachal Pradesh from 1986 to 1995. 162 cases were diagnosed as J.E. with predominance in male sex and lower age group. Maximum cases were recorded between June to October. 11.3% pig sera showed J.E. antibodies when tested by ELISA test.

Introducción. Dentro de los problema infecciosos más graves que afectan a la porcicultura intensiva en todo el mundo se encuentran los respiratorios, los cuales producen efectos adversos sobre la ganancia de peso, la eficiencia alimenticia y la mortalidad. El objetivo del estudio fue detectar la presencia de anticuerpos contra Mycoplasma hyopneumonie (M. hyopneumonie) en cerdos de engorda del estado de Yucatán, México. Material y métodos. Se realizó un estudio transversal en 33 granjas porcinas del estado de Yucatán. En cada granja se recolectó 14 muestras de sueros procedentes de cerdos de engorda (= 5 meses de edad) de líneas comerciales. Para la detección de anticuerpos contra M. hyopneumonie, se utilizó una prueba comercial de ELISA indirecta. En cada granja se aplicó un cuestionario para conocer potenciales factores que pudieran estar relacionados a la seropositividad. La seroprevalencia de M. hyopneumoie se estratificó en dos categorías (ó 30 por ciento) y (> 30 por ciento) y se utilizó la prueba de Ji cuadrada para explorar la asociación con variables contenidas en aspectos generales, de instalaciones y equipo, medidas zoosanitarias y manejo. Resultados. De las 33 granjas muestreadas, 31 (93.9 por ciento) tuvieron al menos un animal seropositivo a M. hyopneumonie. De los 462 sueros evaluados, 168 (36.4 por ciento) resultaron seropositivos. No se encontró asociación (p>0.05) entre las variables analizadas como potenciales factores de riesgo y las seroprevalencias a M. hyopneumonie. Conclusioens. La seropositividad a M. hyopneumonie se encuentra presente y ampliamente distribuida en las granjas porcinas estudiadas y que éstas realizan práctica de manejo que pueden favorecer la presencia o incremento de la seroprevalencia a M. hyopneumonie

Se observaron numerosos Cryptosporidium en el borde ciliado de las células epiteliales del intestino delgado, en tres lechones de 10 semanas de edad. Estos hallazgos se asociaron con una severa atrofia de vellosidades y moderada infiltración linfoide en la lámina propia. Además, en todos estos casos hubo una severa neumonía intersticial y linfoproliferativa compatible con una infección por Mycoplasma. Los estudios bacteriológicos fueron negativos a cepas enteropatógenas de Salmonella y Pasteurella. Estos cerdos pertenecían a una piara con mala higiene y sujetos a masivos tratamientos con varios antibióticos. Aunque el principal papel patológico de Cryptosporidium no puede ser atribuido en éste, la infección por este protozoario podría estar involucrada en el desarrollo de las lesiones. La cryptosporidiosis ha sido previamente notificada en becerros en México, pero este constituye el primer informe en cerdos

ABSTRACT

A presença de anticorpos naturais contra células de porco (xeno-anticorpos) foi analisada em soros de indivíduos normais e de pacientes imunossuprimidos, imunodeficientes primários e renais crônicos hiperimunizados. Em indivíduos normais a média dos títulos observada foi de 1:664. Em 80,9 por cento de pacientes renais transplantados nao foi observado reduçao do título dos xeno-anticorpos após um ano de imunossupressao. Nos pacientes imunodeficientes foi observado um título mais reduzido, mas nunca inferior a 1:1. Após a eliminaçao dos anticorpos naturais do soro de pacientes renais crônicos hipersensibilizados com antígenos HLA, pela adsorçao dos soros com eritrócitos de porco seguido do tratamento com dithiotreitol (DTT), foi observado que os anticorpos IgG anti-HLA nao reagem com os antígenos de histocompatibilidade das células do porco. As conclusoes deste trabalho foram: o título dos xeno-anticorpos em indivíduos normais é muito elevado; a imunossupressao utilizada nos transplantes renais nao permite reduçao da barreira de anticorpos naturais; os imunodeficientes com títulos muito baixos destes anticorpos talvez possam usufruir de transplantes xenogênicos; o método de eliminaçao "in vitro" dos xeno-anticorpos é reproduzível; os soros dos pacientes renais crônicos hiperimunizados com antígenos HLA, nao reagem cruzadamente com linfócitos de porco.

ABSTRACT

El ojo azul (OA) es una enfermedad de etiología viral que se caracteriza por producir encefalitis en lechones, falla reproductiva y opacidad corneal. Sin embargo, todavía no se cuenta con una vacuna para prevención y control de esta enfermedad. EL objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la respuesta inmune y la protección conferida por una vacuna inactivada contra OA. Para la prueba de inmunogenicidad e inocuidad se usaron 10 cerdos destetados, fueron vacunados a las 6 y 8 semanas de edad. Se midió la respuesta inmune humoral por la prueba de sueroneutralización (SN) frente a 100 dosis infectantes cultivo celular 50 por ciento (DICC 50 por ciento) por ml del paramyxovirus de ojo azul cepa 1987 (POA-87). Los resultados de la prueba de SN indicaron que la media de anticuerpos fue de 1:32. No se presentaron reacciones locales o generalizadas, ni aumento en la temperatura de los cerdos vacunados y no vacunados en contracto (mezclados). Se midieron los niveles de Acs por SN cada mes y 6 meses después de la primera aplicación de la vacuna. Se realizó una prueba intradérmica (ID) observándose en la zona de inoculación una reacción de hipersensibilidad tipo IV en 3 de los 7 cerdos inoculados con POA-87 purificado. Además fueron vacunadas 6 hembras gestantes a las 4 y 2 semanas preparto, se midió la respuesta inmune humoral en el suero y calostro de las hembras y se determinó el grado de inmunidad pasiva transmitida, midiendo los niveles de Igs en el suero de los lechones a los 4, 28, y 38 días de edad. En este caso, la media de Acs por SN fue mayor a 1:16, con disminución del 85 por ciento a los 28 días y del 100 por ciento a los 38. En la prueba, de potencia se utilizaron 2 cerdas gestantes, una recibió dos aplicaciones de vacuna antes del parto. El desafío de las dos camadas se hizo a los cuatro días posparto; se observó mortalidad del 100 por ciento en los lechones de la hembra no vacunada, y protección del 71.4 por ciento en los lechones de la madre vacunada. La SARH señala como requisito mínimo un 80 por ciento de protección; sin embargo, de acuerdo con los resultados y análisis comparativos realizados se concluye que la vacuna inactivada contra el paramixovirus del ojo azul (POA) en cerdos, objeto de esta investigación, deberá ser sometida a un estudio con un mayor número de animales para comprobar que este biológico puede alcanzar una protección mayor al 80 por ciento y que es apta para el control de la enfermedad del Ojo Azul

ABSTRACT

El objetivo de este trabajo fue la elaboración de un modelo epidemiológico de la enfermedad bajo las circunstancias presentes en Zacatecas. La primera fase tuvo lugar en el rastro municipal de la ciudad de Zacatecas, de mayo a agosto de 1990, mediante la identificación del metacestodo de E. granulosus y su fertilidad evaluada por la presencia de arenilla hidatídica; en la segunda, se efectuó un seguimiento a las comunidades de origen de animales con hidatidosis. Se encontraron 190 animales infectados (3.1 por ciento); 188 eran cerdos (99 por ciento) y 2 bovinos (1 por ciento); los órganos afectados fueron: hígado (99 por ciento) y pulmón (1 por ciento). El 19 por ciento de los quistes fueron fértiles. De los cerdos afectados 159 (83.7 por ciento) procedían del estado de Zacatecas, el municipio del mismo nombre tuvo el mayor número de casos (42.8 por ciento). Se analizaron los factores que permiten la subsistencia de la enfermedad y que conforman el modelo epidemiológico

ABSTRACT

Se reporta el cultivo de linfocitos de sangre periférica completa de cerdos sanos e infectados, para evaluar la cinética de proliferación celular; 0.5 ml de sangre fue cultivada en 6.0 ml de RPMI-11640 suplementado, en presencia de fitohemaglutinina y 5-BrdU, a 37§C. Al cabo de 48 horas de incubación se cosecharon y fueron teñidos de acuerdo a la técnica de fluorescencia más Giemsa, obteniéndose así células en diferentes etapas de diferenciación, identificándolas en primera, segunda y tercera división. La actividad proliferativa se midió bajo dos parámetros: índice mitótico e índice de replicación. Los resultados son reproducibles y se pueden diferenciar los efectos citotóxicos de los citostáticos sobre los linfocitos del huésped

ABSTRACT

Se muestrearon semanalmente 14 animales para determinar el perfil inmunológico de los cerdos durante las primeras diez semanas de vida. Durante la lactancia, de la primera a la cuarta semana de edad, fue evidente una baja concentración de leucocitos, linfocitos T totales (TE), T de alta afinidad (Taa) y B con receptor Fc (Bfc), determinados por rosetas con eritrocitos de borrego. Asimismo, se incrementó la respuesta inradérmica a la fitohemaglutinina (PHA). En la cuarta semana los animales fueron destetados: entre la quinta y sexta semana de edad continuó el incremento de leucocitos y linfocitos TE, Taa y Bfc y disminuyeron los linfocitos Null. Sin embargo, hubo una disminución marcada de la respuesta intradérmica a la PHA. A partir de la octava semana de edad, los valores que se encontraron en las subpoblaciones celulares y la respuesta intradérmica fueron semejantes a los que se informan en adultos. Se concluye que el sistema inmune de los cerdos madura durante las primeras ocho semanas de vida, aunque durante el destete hubo cambios drásticos en las concentraciones de las subpoblaciones celulares y se hicieron anérgicos a la prueba intradérmica, lo que sugiere una inmunosupresión transitoria
